HISTORY
The world of Pang Gu is composed of Three Realms, the Celestial Realm, Jian, also known as the Living Realm and Hell. While the Living Realm is known to be most foul at times, it sits nestled between the two realms in perfect harmony taking influences from both. That is until an unknown blight began to spread across the Mortal Realm in the form of a pungent purple mist that traveled up from the depths of hell. Everything that this mist touched would quickly whether away and die, causing an influx of impure spirits.
In hopes of coping against this deadly mist, the deities decided to seek a champion within the Three Realms to combat this nameless evil with the blessing of the Moon Goddess, Yue. Their first champion was a mortal man by the name of Qiyuan who dutifully accessed the Goddess' blessing in other to purge Jian of impure souls. However, Qiyuan eventually died once his soul became just as tainted as the spirits he tried to cleanse. This upset forced the deities to seek a new champion, not of mortal flesh. While the winged-elves of Celestial Realm were very similar to that of their human counterparts, their immortality and prowess with magic made them the perfect candidates for such a task. Instead of picking just one champion among the winged-elves, the deities picked three stalwart heroes to help purge the evil spreading through Jian.
One such hero was none other than Jingyi's father, Xinyi the first Seeker.
A Seeker acts as a medium between the Three Realms, a guardian who ferries the souls of living to the Realm of the Dead. Only those worthy of the Moon Goddess' blessing could become a Seeker. Jingyi was just a child when his father was chosen. Mingying, his human mother, ran a family clinic within the sleepy hills of the Celestial Vale not too far off from the village of Wuyuan. While he was too young to understand why his father had to leave, his father's absence caused resentment. Jingyi was very close to his mother, often assisting her in the clinic in his later years. It's through his mother's work that Jingyi began to study medicine. Education was scarce in a province plagued by poverty but thanks to his mother's tutelage, Jingyi eventually became an accomplished herbologist with a strong understanding of the human form. He spent the next ten years running the clinic with his mother, often taking patients when he could.
As the years progressed, Jingyi's work at the clinic became increasingly more dangerous. A terrible war broke out in the southern regions of the Vale causing an influx of refugees to seek shelter within Xuyuan. With these refugees came a mysterious plague that began to ravish the land in the form of a pungent purple mist. Everywhere this mist went, death would soon follow as the land itself became stripped of its life force. This phenomenon caused great strife among the people as resources began to dwindle With such chaos taking afoot within the Vale, Jingyi tried to convince his mother to pack up what they could and leave. However, Mingying couldn't be swayed. She made an oath with her late father to keep the clinic running despite all the challenges ahead. Despite their resolve, Jingyi couldn't help but wonder why his father hadn't returned. Supplies began to run thin as more patients piled into the clinic. With the threat of war spreading throughout the region along with the coming of the Mist, the supplies came to a halt.
In hopes of getting fresh supplies from the next town over, Jingyi volunteered to travel to the capital city of Huangshan. While his mother protested against the idea, Jingyi managed to persuade her. While there's been talk of bandits scouring the main roads, Jingyi promised to take the backroads that lead through the forest to reach the city. It would be a week-long trip at best by horseback but this was their only option. Even though Jingyi can fly, the trip would be too tasking for his wings to handle. After packing what he could for the road and saddling his horse, Fu, Jingyi left at the crack of dawn. The road to Huangshan is long and treacherous but Jingyi was confident that he could avoid whatever lurked ahead by cutting through the forest. However, his journey is cut short once he comes across a cluster of animated corpses lurching around within the underbrush. They were jiangshi, zombie-like creatures that feast upon the flesh of the living. It was rumored among the locals that wherever the Mist settles, monsters follow. While Jingyi thought it was just a rumor, his first encounter with the jiangshi proved otherwise. He managed to avoid the monsters by taking the high road above the ravine but soon his luck ran out when a jiangshi lunged at them. His horse was spooked and threw him off. It's a miracle that Jingyi didn't break his neck during the fall but during the ordeal, Fu was killed. Now without his horse, Jingyi had to make the rest of the journey by foot.
He followed along the ravine knowing it would eventually lead him halfway through the grove and towards the direction of Huangshan. While he managed to avoid most of the jiangshi by flying, he eventually ran out stamina. Now forced to walk, Jingyi eventually came across a small cottage within the distance beside an old worn-out bridge. As he approached, a terrible scream came from inside. As he approached, a young woman dashed out of the cottage drenched in blood with a ghoul-like beast shuffling after her. Unlike the other jiangshi he dealt with prior, this one looked less human and more monstrous in size. Its flesh had all but rotted off showing its ghastly innards. It walked upon four legs like a beast and had great large fangs like a wolf but embedded upon its skinless chest was a small moon-like jewel that resembled that of a petal.
The jewel shined like a twinkling star, completely out of place upon this monstrous creature. A faint whisper in the wind told him to take aim at the jewel. It told him that the only way to lay that soul to rest was by aiming for the jewel. As the monster continued to chase after the girl, Jingyi cocked his arrow and took aim. Just when it seemed that the monster would devour her, Jingyi released his arrow. The jewel upon the monster's chest shattered and within that instant, a brilliant light engulfed everything.
When Jingyi came to, he wasn't in the middle of the grove anymore but in a beautiful palace covered by a lighter white fog. He wandered around aimlessly in this seemingly abandoned palace until a flicker of light called out to him. This light was none other than the Goddess of the Moon herself, Yue. As the goddess took form, she presented Jingyi with the mystical stone he shattered only moments ago. She explained to him about the Mist that overtakes the earth below and beseeched him to accept the Moon Jade in all of its glory to combat the evil. It was a tall order, one that Jingyi was uncertain about. However, after witnessing what he saw earlier he couldn't possibly refuse. He never knew what happened to his father but regardless, he hesitantly accepts the stone.

PERSONALITY
Jingyi is a courteous but sometimes cankerous asshole with a surprisingly strong sense of duty. Ever since he began his training to become a Seeker, Jingyi dedicates most of his time to vanquish the demons that threaten his world. However, Jingyi laments this change in his life since he wishes nothing more than to run his family's clinic. He's the type who appreciates the simpler things in life, often preferring the mundane over the fantastical even though that doesn't translate into his fashion tastes. Jingyi possesses a deep appreciation for life and often goes out of his way to protect others. It's because of this that Jingyi often finds himself placed in precarious situations. He's brave in that sense, always willing to fight for those who cannot. While Jingyi takes his duties seriously, his new role as a Seeker often gives rise to contention with his mother especially after knowing how his father died. While Jingyi knows he must follow in his father's footsteps, he's quite reluctant to do so out of fear. It's this fear that makes Jingyi reluctant to perform some of his spirit cleansing duties but regardless, he perseveres.
While Jingyi can be quite boorish at times, he's mostly all bark and no bite. Outside of his work as a Seeker, he's not much of a fighter. It's not that he doesn't know how to fight, it's just that he rather not waste his energy upon those he deems unworthy. In truth, it's because he doesn't take any joy in killing. After witnessing how the Mist ravaged the land, he doesn't feel incline to harm others. However, he is the type to defend others if necessary. Jingyi is shockingly brave in that aspect, the kind of person who always leaps into things headfirst without much thought. While his candid and frank nature is appreciated by others, Jingyi has a habit of putting his foot in his mouth.
Prideful and sometimes a bit too rambunctious, Jingyi can be a bit much to handle when he's under the influence. He loves alcohol but it's an onesided love affair since it often leaves him ill. Even though he trained as a physician at his mother's clinic, hasn't been able to shake the habit yet. While he does his best not to drink too often, Jingyi has a habit of going overboard whenever he's with friends. Jingyi does his best to curb his alcoholism but it's an uphill battle for him, especially after he became a Seeker. He'll usually try to drown his sorrows with wine but if he doesn't, his passion for crafting takes root.
As one would suspect, Jingyi's quite scholarly thanks to his interest in medicine. While he often reading about acupuncture points, medicinal herbs, and unorthodox practices, Jingyi does have a habit of reading trashy romance novels in his spare time. He'll never admit this of course, but reading them helps him decompress after a stressful day. Besides reading, Jingyi is quite fond of hunting. He's a decent archer, good enough to kill a rabbit or boar but he refuses to use his talents to take a human life. While this might seem hypocritical at best, Jingyi maintains this creed as a Seeker.
